Deltas

Deltas  2011
8x8 inches, Acrylic on gallery canvas
Well, it's been a busy weekend.  Started playing with Liquitex Pouring Medium, Liqutex acrylic ink and Golden Fluid acrylics, and voila!  A throwback to the psychedelic 70's, or a false colour satellite photo - take your pick. Personally, I think it looks like an Amazonian river delta in enhanced infrared, don't you?

Only five colours were use - deep red, phthalo blue, sienna, white and cad yellow.

No brushes or knives touched the surface of this canvas. The  paint was manipulated by rocking the canvas through a number of degrees and letting the paint interact to produce the patterns.

What's more fun, although you can't see it in the photo, is that the 'deltas' (which were acrylic ink dropped onto the base paint/medium combo and allowed to spread) are actually inset into the paint layer ever so slightly, and highly textured.  Interesting how the different viscosities interact to provide surprises.

I can see that I will have to explore this medium and fluid paints and inks in greater depth - this will definitely be great fun.

TTFN!

  1. Terry, that looks like fun!
It's so important for artists to find time to play. That reminds me, I have a couple of free hours this afternoon, I think I'm going to play with paint.
