Smyrna Dunes, 2011 10x16 inches, pastel on Wallis paper |
Can you feel the breezes? The sand is so soft and smooth on the beaches at New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It gets eaten away regularly by wind and water, so they plant sea grass to anchor it in place. I don't know if they'll ever win the battle, but it's a beautiful way to spend time.
I think I'll be painting seascapes (or maybe I should call them beachscapes) for a long time - I have so many photos to remember my times in New Smyrna Beach, I have endless references for my paintings. And with the ceiling fan whirring away and music playing - I'm right back there on the beach each time I pick up my pastels...
